Ölüdeniz (or 'dead sea' or 'calm sea') takes its name from Turkish legend, the stunning lagoon is a protected area, ensuring that its natural beauty is preserved. There is a small entrance charge to use the lagoon beach and only non-motorised water sports are allowed. The main resort beach is a long stretch of coarse sand and shingle beach known as Belceğiz.
There is a strip alongside the seafront promenade with a number of relaxing bars and restaurants, serving local and international cuisine. Just a quick dolmuş ride from Hisarönü is the main town for this part of Southern Turkey, Fethiye. This is an ancient market town and has several historical attractions to visit. It’s most famous for the Lycian rock tombs that were chiselled into the hillside above the town thousands of years ago. Some are still very well preserved, and should not be missed during your Hisarönü holiday.
